Oexa extends connected care to the Australian Immunisation Register

On the afternoon of 25 March 2026, a pharmacist in Springwood recorded a vaccination in Light and sent it straight to the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) – another piece of national health infrastructure Oexa products now connect to.

On the afternoon of 25 March 2026, Light – Oexa’s clinical platform for Australian pharmacy – submitted its first vaccination encounter to the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR). It happened at a pharmacy in Springwood, Queensland. The pharmacist recorded the vaccination in Light, and the encounter was submitted to AIR directly from the platform. For everyone watching the logs, it was a nerve-biting moment. Submitting to a national health register for the first time tends to be. AIR joins the list of national health systems Oexa products are connected to – alongside the National Prescription Delivery Service (NPDS) and the Active Script List Registry (ASLR) through Scripty and Managed Intermediary. Each of these integrations takes months of work with the relevant agency, careful conformance testing, and a first live submission where the team holds its breath. Oexa is listed by Services Australia as a software developer integrated with Medicare Online, ECLIPSE and the AIR. Light also supports editing and resubmitting an AIR encounter after it’s been sent – so if a detail needs to be corrected, the pharmacist can update it in Light and resend to AIR, rather than logging into PRODA separately to amend the record. Since that first submission, Light has been in pilot with a group of pharmacies to extend the approach to vaccination claiming. The work covers eligibility determination across federal program rules – the National Immunisation Program Vaccinations in Pharmacy (NIPVIP) and the COVID-19 Vaccine in Community Pharmacy Program (CVCP), both claimed through the Pharmacy Program Administrator (PPA) – and handles multiple vaccines administered in a single encounter, with the right claim routed to the right funder automatically.
