Scripty introduces Safety Net Insights to help patients better understand PBS refills

Oexa has launched Safety Net Insights in its free consumer app Scripty – a new feature that aims to help Australians see when their medication refills may count toward their PBS Safety Net threshold, and when they may not.

Brisbane, 28 April 2026 – Brisbane digital health company Oexa has launched Safety Net Insights in its free consumer app Scripty – a new feature that aims to help Australians see when their medication refills may count toward their PBS Safety Net threshold, and when they may not. The feature provides users with a suggested refill date based on the PBS 20-day or 50-day early supply rule and the user’s last dispensed date, where this is available to Scripty. Why it matters For Australians managing chronic conditions, the PBS Safety Net may make a difference to the cost of their medications. However, information about the PBS 20-day and 50-day early supply rules isn’t always visible to consumers at the point of refilling – it’s often only at dispense that the pharmacist can confirm whether a refill will count toward the Safety Net threshold. With rising living costs, this information may be increasingly relevant for many Australians. Early refill requests are reported to be one of the common reasons for cancelled orders, which can create unnecessary back-and-forth between patients and pharmacy teams. Safety Net Insights aims to help close that information gap – for consumers and the pharmacists supporting them. What it does Inside the Scripty app, Safety Net Insights aims to: 🔔 Notify users if their medication appears to be subject to the PBS 20-day or 50-day early supply rule 📅 Suggest an earliest refill date that may assist users with their Safety Net benefits 💡 Provide practical information within the Scripty app Users are encouraged to consult their pharmacist or doctor for advice specific to their circumstances. Built on real feedback The feature was shaped by feedback from Scripty users managing chronic conditions, and from pharmacists who have raised early refills as an ongoing concern. “Health consumers using Scripty told us they wanted more clarity around their PBS Safety Net benefits, especially during these challenging economic times,” said Mina G., Co-founder at Oexa, Head of Product and Experience. “With Safety Net Insights, we’re looking to give people the information they need to make more informed decisions about their medication refills and possibly reduce unnecessary costs and stress.” “Pharmacists have shared that one of the main reasons for cancelled orders was patients refilling too early and potentially missing out on Safety Net benefits,” Mina added. “With Safety Net Insights, we hope to help bridge that gap, minimise cancelled orders, save time, and reduce unnecessary back and forth.” Building on existing features Safety Net Insights follows the release of Medicine Shortage Alerts – a feature aimed at helping users stay up-to-date on potential supply issues for their medicines. Both features reflect a similar approach: taking information that already exists, and surfacing it inside the Scripty app where it may be most useful to the consumer. It complements Oexa’s broader work on connected care infrastructure, which includes Light Platform (a clinical information system for pharmacy) and Managed Intermediary (secure API infrastructure connecting digital health services to national prescription systems).
